Did you know that there are only 3 reasons why you’ll ever miss a quant question on the GRE or the GMAT?
1) You’ll make some dumb arithmetic or algebra mistake. Under the pressure of the test, ‘4 + 5’ will look like ‘22’ to you.
2) You’ll misread a question. You’ll miss that ‘x’ has to be an integer or that they want ‘x + y’.
3) You won’t be able to spot the next step. They will ask you a question that is so hard, you won’t see the next inference or logical leap they want you to make and you’ll get stuck.
The first two reasons are tightly related. The GMAT or GRE is asking you to simultaneously do two things that human brains are terrible at doing simultaneously
The test is giving you very difficult conceptual material to analyze and, at the same time, expecting you to keep track of every detail in the question and execute your algebra and arithmetic perfectly. That is a killer combo.
